Te Hue Bay (Assassination Cove), Bay of Islands, Friday, 7 January, 2011

Tough day, hooning around in the tender, kayaking, swimming, reading and barbecuing. We’ve had a lovely day, clear and hot but has clouded over and there is some rain now. All good, rain will wash boat and cool the night.

We had our first boat problems today – I blocked the toilet, fortunately I did eventually persuade it to flush. Thank god, it is no fun stripping down a marine toilet to clear the blockage. And the taps on our cockpit shower were frozen, a bloody great big wrench (I’ve made a mental note, would be a good back-up anchor) and some WD45 sorted that so we could shower in cockpit after swimming.

Did catch bait which is in bait keeper hanging off the side of the boat, with the tender and the two kayaks. Pretty much like every other boat in the bay.

It has been really hot and I burn easily so have quite a regimen:
1. Face cream – Factor 25 and I put on first thing in the morning.
2. Sunblock – Factor 100 and put on face and neck before I go into sun although I have a selection because I might want a matte finish or a tinted one if I am going somewhere.
3. Sunblock – Factor 50 for arms and hands, spray on, dry fast and water proof.
4. Sunblock – Factor 20 for legs, because I do want tanned legs for those glorious few weeks a year where I can wear skirts but not bother with pantyhose.
5. Leave in hair conditioner with UV filters
6. Other sun protection – lip balm, sunblock that I keep in my handbag and I also keep a combination block/insect repellent in my backpack. And I have after-sun creams and have a variety of brands, mainly because I like buying sunblock. Makes me feel as virtuous as actually using it.

So you get the point – I invest time and money in sun care. I’d use toothpaste with built in sunblock it it was available, of course in the absence, I protect my teeth by keeping my mouth closed in the sun.

Rob spends more time in the sun than I do and is also careful – he uses the sunblock with the orange lid!

Men are from Mars aren’t they? But we’ll see tomorrow – he finished his sunblock and the new one is standing next to my shampoo on the cockpit seat and they look very similar. And I might not be able to resist putting his sun block in the bathroom and leaving my shampoo just where it is.

So did your evil plan work? Does Rob have super clean and shiny arm, leg and chest hair?
