Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau Island – 19-1-10

January 19th, 2010 · 1 Comment

We had a spanking trip today – 78 miles in 11 1/2 hours using all three sails – main, genoa and iron spinnaker. Left Whangaruru at 7:30 this morning and dropped pick in Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau at 7:00 this evening.

Wind was iffy for first half of day but strengthened to a steady 10-15 knots off our port quarter after lunch so we had a very good broad reach.

But I do have to listen to Rob more carefully. I would have liked to spend the day in Whangaruru and when Rob woke me this morning saying “Can I bring you breakfast in bed, love” I thought we were off to a good start. Next minute, donk is on, pick is up and we are on our way. Rob is sticking with his story that he said “Can I warm up engine for trip to Kawau, love”. Oh well maybe I’ll get breakfast in bed tomorrow.

Cooking while underway can be challenging so I keep food very simple. Chopped up some potatoes, carrots and onion and threw into oven to roast. And once we’d anchored I fried up some lamb steaks. Very good after a long day. Both Rob and I were hungry – after feeling seasick yesterday I was very cautious and had only had dry crackers and water during day. Felt fine all day and hotter than yesterday because it was clear most of day. Go figure!

Carol would tell me that I did make the offer of b/fast in bed, but with my short attention span, got distracted onto other things. Rob might have the same problem. It’s certainly never Carols recollection that is wrong. It’s nearly over guys ……….
